2007 Starts off great in the championship, scoring ten consecutive Top 4 finishes and leading Andrea Dovizioso in the battle for 2nd place. It all crashes down at Brno, when Alex ranks a disappointing 11th place in the race and breaks his good form for ever. As a result, the San Marino rider only scores one podium in the remaining 6 rounds. De Angelis finishes the season in 3rd place, with 235 points overall. Also, he confirms move to MotoGP at the end of the year, signing a deal with Honda Gresini.
2008 Rookie season inside the MotoGP class, riding a private Honda for Team Gresini. Fails to make a podium appearance all season - unlike fellow ex-250cc riders Andrea Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo - and highlights two 4th places at Mugello and Sachsenring. Ranks 14th overall in the riders' classification with 63 points.
