Spies romps to Monza pole

Ben Spies has claimed a fifth World Superbike Championship pole position at Monza, maintaining his perfect start to the season over a single lap.
Despite a relentless benchmark pace being set ahead of him in Q2, Spies was unstoppable when it mattered, producing a lap time of 1min 44.073secs - some eight tenths quicker than Troy Bayliss's year-old record.
Having topped nearly every session leading to Superpole, Michel Fabrizio would have to settle for second behind Spies, two tenths adrift.
They are joined on the front row, for the first time this season, by Ryuichi Kiyonari, who produced a superb effort on his one and only attempt to qualify third, while Max Neukirchner made it four different manufacturers at the front in fourth.
Championship leader Noriyuki Haga starts fifth, ahead of Jonathan Rea, Max Biaggi and Yukio Kagayama.
